Welcome to my passion project!

Kokolato is a brand of raw coconut cream based gelato that I invented on the island of Bali, Indonesia in 2014. Apart from my love for guilt-free vegan frozen dessert, this brand also helped me discover my passion for creative direction. In 2019 I decided to officially rebrand Kokolato, and this portfolio displays the results of the initiative.

The mood board below was the first step in communicating the avant-garde, luxurious, artistic, and playful vibe I was going for.
This new logo embodies some key components of our gelato experience.

The cup to hold the gelato, the island where it was invented, the coconut that it was made from, the “K” for Kokolato, and a symbol to represent the Mangku (a Balinese priest) who blessed all our coconuts.

At our peak, Kokolato was available in about 25 locations around the island of Bali. Below are a few examples of menus available in the different restaurants it was being served, and YES, the pictures are our actual product shots.
The colors speak for themselves, and the patterns allow for a lot of great branding experiences.
Apart from our cool pattern, we played around with a few circle concepts for different kinds of packaging.
Here’s another design for a gelato menu that could be at our own parlor, or customized for the parlors our products are available.

When it came to the concept of art for the walls of our shops, I wanted to really push the limits on our ability to make ice cream into art.
Given the superior quality of our ingredients, we decided to artistically display exactly what was going into our flavors. Taking pictures of our gelato on a black background added to the sophisticated and luxurious ambiance we were striving for.
We took pride in the fact that we used all natural and organic ingredients. Kokolato aimed to fill its parlors with beautiful photography, and to offer the photos to resellers as well.
Below we have a few instagram concepts we were playing with as well. The first one very much sticks to the circle as being the limitation to play within and around. It’s a cool concept that could give the feed a great flow. The following concept is more focused on dark mode, the ingredients, and the product
